Second Life & Education
SL is a great educational tool that offers numerous features for instructors and students. In fact, SL provides virtual platforms for about 100 universities around the world. For instance, Princeton University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Kentucky are examples of educational institutions have adopted SL.
Faculties in SL universities have actual office hours where they can “meet” their students. Some universities hold libraries for the benefit of their students; other universities have live video lectures and musical concerts. Lectures in these universities can be synchronous, where students’ avatars attend; or asynchronous where students can listen to lectures any time (Baker, Wentz & Woods, 2009).
